The most amazing part of my job has to be the opportunity to network with family businesses. That may sound a little trite but this community is overflowing with people who demonstrate daily the best attributes of enterprise and care. This morning’s event highlights this perfectly. FBA accredited advisers; Matthews Steer Chartered Accountants host a Women in Business breakfast quarterly. Around the table this morning were family business matriarchs and protégés,... Read more

A family business may choose any one of a number of governance models such as an all-family board, a partially independent board, or an independent board, or even an advisory board. I always know when State of Origin fever hits QLD. The weather changes and becomes a little cooler (even for QLD standards)… cars become adorned with Maroon or Blue paraphernalia, and the usually suit attired corporate types turn up to work in their team colour jerseys. We're checking with non-members too! Thanks to those who have participated in the research work; we look forward to sharing the results with you. It's also time for the biannual FBA Survey, conducted by... Read more

I have been touching base with our members this month to see how we can add value to their membership, surprisingly many have asked for... Read more

June is strange time – the shortest day on the 23rd for many means starting and finishing work in the dark. The beginning of winter in earnest is the final push into warm clothes and comfort foods which we’ve resisted for much of autumn. And the end of the financial year looms large with stress around tax and paperwork and deadlines. Winter is a great time though, for living on... Read more
