Mark brings with him a wealth of knowledge of the family business sector having been joint Managing Director of Kagan Logistics for a majority of his professional career. Mark began his early career as a solicitor before joining the family logistics business in 1985. He was involved for 24 years alongside his first cousin, helping to develop it from a single facility in Melbourne to a National logistics company with over 100,000sq meters of storage space. The business was sold in 2008 when Mark and his cousin consolidated five logistics companies and on sold to private equity. He now runs a successful family business Scarpa Imports with his wife of whom has owned and operated the business for 32 years. Mark has been a current committee member of The Royal Melbourne Hospital Foundation for over 5 years, has been a member of FBA for nearly 20 years and is a long term member of the FBA VIC forum group program.

Graham Neil Henderson CPA, Independent

In 1967 Graham started his business career as a Commercial Cadet with the Repco Limited Group. Working in various finance, accounting and managerial roles. Later he joined Heine Brothers Australasia (international commodity traders) working in both their property/finance divisions and also their trading division in various accounting and finance roles.Graham was appointed the Company Secretary of Kiwi Limited. Upon merger of Kiwi and Nicholas in 1981, he was appointed Chief Financial Officer for the Asia Region of Nicholas Kiwi Limited.In 1989 he joined the Mitchell family business as Managing Director and shareholder of Mitchell Laminates Pty. Ltd. When new business, Mitchell Plastics was commenced in 2001, Graham was appointed Managing Director of that business and he is also a shareholder of Mitchell Plastics Pty. LtdIn 2011 Graham was appointed to the Family Business Australia National Board and Chairman of the Finance Sub Committee. He also is member of the Victorian Coalition Government’s Small Business Ministerial Council.

Roz is a highly motivated business professional with 13 years experience as Managing Director of Hawkins Transport . In 1981, Roz commenced work in the family business as a Girl Friday, when the business employed 9 people. Her job then entailed forklift driving, truck driving, ironing, accounts payable, reception, sales, bar attendant and cleaner. Today, the Hawkins business group has a turnover of $70 million and employs more than 140 staff.

Among her achievements, Roz revolutionised travel to Moreton Island by designing a vehicular / passenger ferry suitable for day tours; turned a loss-making truck stop at the Port of Brisbane into a profitable business in less than a year; and was state finalist in the 2012 Telstra Business Women’s Awards.

Mixing corporate experience and a university education with family business values, Lance Stringer has rescued and then grown their 32 year old family business of pet cremation.

Lance bought the business from his founding father in 2002 and has grown it from a one man show in decline, to now operating interstate in 5 locations with a team of 35 people. The group has become the largest family owned service of its type in Australia and Lance has been an enthusiastic member of FBA forum groups both in WA and Victoria since 2008

Danielle has been an FBA member since 2001. Her reason for nominating to the position of Chairman is that she believes she can assist the Association to grow significantly as well as lead by example and help build a new culture.

Debbie and her husband, Scott have owned Resource Furniture since 2006. Established since 1978, it is a first generation family business which provides quality commercial office furniture, shelving systems and accessories for all sectors of the marketplace. Debbie has had many years experience in retail working for various family owned businesses. Later in her career she moved into the field of training and worked both as Trainer and Education Manager for TAFESA. Debbie is excited to be part of Family Business Australia. She believes the organisation offers good strategies and ideas, along with support for all aspects of family owned businesses.

After a career in Human Resources Management and Training & Development in both the private sector and higher education, Jill has developed a keen interest in family owned businesses. Her PhD studies were in the area of leadership and family business and she is also exploring issues relevant to boards and governance of the SME family business.Jill has developed an elective on Family Business for post-graduate management programs, published chapters in texts about family business issues and presented papers at numerous national and international family business conferences. She teaches the Leadership course in the MBA programs of the University of Adelaide both here and offshore in Hong Kong and Singapore and also teaches in the Business School’s Executive Education programs.Jill is a member of FBA’s National Education Committee, the State Executive Committee and the Family Business Subcommittee to the Business Development Council.

Sara Pantaleo drove the growth of La Porchetta from only 12 outlets when she joined the company in 1996, into the largest, licensed, a-la-carte restaurant franchise in Australasia today, with over 70 in the group. She achieved this by building corporate systems and process that enabled the company to expand without compromising its core family values and culture.With the right elements firmly in place, Sara went on to introduce key structural and service innovations that positioned La Porchetta for continued strong growth.

Sara is passionate about franchising as a business model. She is a member of the national Board of Directors of the Franchise Council of Australia (FCA). This is the peak body for the franchising sector and represents franchisees, franchisors and service providers. Of 12 Board positions, five, including Sara’s are appointed by direct election from the membership.

Sara was national Franchise Woman of the Year 2010 and she a Victorian finalist in the 2012 Telstra Business Woman of the Year award.

Greg brings a breadth of business expertise, understanding of family businesses, and experience with federated organisations like FBA. In his most recent role as CEO of Dairy Farmers Milk Co-operative, which he held for 8 years, Greg successfully developed and implemented the strategic vision of the business, whilst managing a broad range of key stakeholders. Prior to this, Greg held positions of Deputy Chairman of the Australian National Drag Racing Association, CEO of Destination Melbourne Limited, and senior roles with Victorian Farmers Federation. A Melbournian, Greg was also General Manager of Melbourne Football Club in the early 2000’s.
